5 reasons why thermal storage may finally be set to take off

DLS proposes a new market framework for using behind-the-meter storage to accommodate growing loads, improve grid utilization and incentivize private investment in grid-facing assets

The world’s busiest airport will deploy 2,200 Ton-refrigeration-hours of modular energy storage to reduce peak loads and ensure eco-friendly, reliable cooling across three concourses.

Batteries add heat and strain cooling systems, so only ~50% of their energy powers IT. IceBrick does the opposite reducing cooling load and delivering up to 90% of its energy to compute.

An annual levelized  cost comparison finds that thermal energy storage undercuts lithium-ion batteries by 40% for unlocking data center compute capacity — and the math starts with ice.

Nostromo Energy Launches IceBrick360 for Data Centers - A New Cold Thermal Energy Storage Product Addressing Critical Speed to Power Needs

AP News highlights our innovative ice battery technology that stores energy as ice at night to cool buildings during the day.

Before electricity, ice was king for cooling! Explore the surprising origins of air conditioning. See how Nostromo Energy's innovative ice batteries build on that legacy, delivering sustainable, cost-saving, and grid-resilient cooling for modern buildings.

When electricity is cheap, the batteries freeze water. When energy costs go up, building managers turn off their pricey chillers and use the ice to keep things cool

Infrastructure costs – especially energy costs – are among the biggest expenses for hotels, with air conditioning often making up between 40% and 50% of total energy costs.

California is well past the halfway mark to its goal of 100% renewable power generation by 2045. But this comes with major challenges, both financial and environmental.

Nostromo will use funds to deploy its IceBrick thermal energy systems in 193 commercial buildings across California

Hospitals, which keep us healthy and safe, share the responsibility for keeping the earth healthy and safe. Let’s explore hospitals’ environmental footprint, their current efforts to improve, and one solution that could make a real difference.

This week, Teja talks with Yaron Ben Nun, CTO and Founder of Nostromo Energy, about building a company from a good solution, the best way to learn how to negotiate, and how sometimes the best ideas are the ones that can take you down.

The IceBrick system is the first, distributed, large-scale dispatchable supply-side thermal energy storage technology to obtain qualified capacity, not subject to interconnection

Check out the five energy storage companies using lithium-ion, flow, and thermal storage solutions to propel us towards a carbon-free future.

Energy storage systems are the key to achieving ‘net zero’ carbon emissions. They significantly reduce the need to rely on fossil fuels and increase the reliability and flow of renewable and clean energy sources.

In the face of renewables’ intermittency issues, which result in fossil fuels remaining a prominent power source, virtual power plants, might provide the answer we’ve been looking for.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office has invited thermal energy storage startup Nostromo into due diligence and terms sheet negotiations for a loan worth up to US$176 million.

To understand the IceBrick system, we first need to understand how buildings are cooled. Large commercial buildings are cooled using chillers. Chillers use refrigerants to cool water, and then distribute this cooled water throughout the building.

As the world heats up, more energy is required to keep buildings cool. By pairing renewable energy with safe ‘behind the meter’ energy storage solutions businesses can reduce both their carbon footprint and their energy bills.

During peak hours, air conditioning in commercial and industrial buildings accounts for approximately half of California’s energy demands. These buildings have the potential to reduce their demand from the electric grid during peak times.

The system is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enable the hotels to reach their sustainability goals while saving on energy costs. This project marks the first hospitality industry partnership using Nostromo’s technology

Over the storage system’s lifespan, this could be equated to a reduction of more than 5,000 metric tons.

Two Beverly Hills hotels - The Beverly Hilton and The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills- are now using ice-powered clean energy to reduce emissions. The two hotels are the first in the hospitality sector to use Nostromo's IceBrick technology.

For both hotels, Nostromo has installed the 1.4MW-hour energy storage system.

Advancements in energy storage, are driving innovation in the sector. Retired power generation plants are being repurposed as storage sites, and the residential and C&I sectors are turning to storage for electricity reliability and resilience.

The Nostromo IceBrick® energy storage system will reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions and help the hotels achieve their aggressive climate goals

In order to reduce both costs and emissions, data centers can and should use an energy storage technologies.

Corporate responsibility today means that all businesses face increased pressure to “go green.” But this demand comes with unique challenges when you are in the hotel industry.

When it comes to better energy consumption – the broad strokes alone are not enough. The fundamental differences in time of use make all the difference.

We must take a hard look at our larger energy consumption and what EVs bring to the picture – and make some critical changes around them.

With buildings making up two-thirds of the state's greenhouse gas emissions, the law (LL97), which will require buildings to report electricity usage and other factors that will be used to calculate carbon output, is a step in the right direction.

Businesses are under increasing pressure to “go green,” and one way companies are doing that is with their business travel practices.

As the push to decarbonize buildings gains momentum, the simple concept of using ice to reduce AC use is becoming more appealing.

Modular cold energy storage projects are in line for a DOE-supported loan for the installation of a 120-building energy storage portfolio in California and various other states.

If approved, the project would enable rapid deployment of Nostromo’s novel large-scale ice-based energy storage systems for up to 120 buildings in California and other U.S. states

To have a sustainable planet, we need not just renewable energies, but an efficient way to store that power. These technologies aim to do just that. For electric vehicles, too.

Nostromo secures a $9.1 million equity investment by Migdal and Freepoint Commodities. The two investors are highly committed to renewables and energy storage. The investment will support Nostromo's growth in the US.

The cooling properties of ice don’t need to be explained. But did you know that ice can store energy and help companies reduce their carbon footprint in the process?

With our planet getting warmer, our cooling requirements are only going to ramp up as we continue to build, develop, and commercialize.
